His family moved to Dothan, Ala in 1932 and he attended public schools until 10th grade.
Guy graduated from the Marion Military Institute located in Marion, Alabama in 1945.
At age 18, he served in the U.S. Army and qualified as an infantry paratrooper at Fort Benning GA. The first five airplane flights of his life ended in him jumping from the aircraft and landing by parachute. His follow-on assignment was the 82nd Airborne Division where he served in A Troop, 10th Constabulary Squadron as part of the Occupation Forces in Post WWII war-torn Kassel, Germany. He was awarded the World War II Victory and the Occupation Medals. He left the Army as a PFC with an Honorable Discharge and Certificate of Disability on December 3rd, 1947.
He enrolled at the University of Florida in the fall of 1948 with the GI Bill and graduated in three years in the spring of 1951 with a Business Administration Degree in Economics. Guy, due to his age (21) and military service, served as his dorm building manager in the Murphy Area of the campus. In addition, while at UF, he studied piano, cartography and calligraphy. He also enjoyed walking across the street from the dormitory during evening breaks from studies to visit Mid-town Gold Coast for coffee and smokes while dressed in pajamas (while UF was an all-male university).
Guy was hired by Crawford and Company upon graduation in 1951 and employed in Jacksonville, FL.
Guy and Helen while dating both enjoyed dinner and dancing at the Lobster House Restaurant on the St. Johns River. Guy married Helen (Marie Smith), on June 19th, 1952, at Riverside Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, FL.
He and Helen lived in Jacksonville till December 1952 and were transferred to Tallahassee, FL by Crawford and Co where they lived until 1956. Sanderson Cole Prescott and Christian Guy Prescott were born in Tallahassee during this time.
He was promoted to the manager’s position at a new office established by Crawford in Panama City, FL. Jan Marie Prescott (Jakes) and Connie Ann Prescott (Spell) were born during this time.
Guy and Helen decided to start their own insurance adjusting business (Prescott and Associates). After the school year ended in 1969 the family moved back to Jacksonville, FL. He said the fondest part of his career was being co-located with his father Cecil Guy Prescott off Phillips Highway.
In 1980, Guy was asked to return to Crawford and Company. He fully retired at age 65 in 1992.
Guy enjoyed traveling, camping, sailing and watching his grandchildren by the pool. He served as the family historian working on family photo albums for countless hours and building model balsawood airplanes. He also enjoyed hosting numerous great backyard BBQs as THE pit master (“you can have either “sissy or real “Big Boy” BBQ) for birthdays and holidays and the famous Desert Storm Victory BBQ where we welcomed home three family warriors.
Guy was a believing Christian who had a giving heart when family was in need and provided a safe harbor. Guy (and Helen) had strong family values and were deeply committed to their extended family. Guy and Helen have been blessed with four children, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Guy loved to say, thank you for associating with me and “Keep it in the Road.” So, everyone, thanks for associating with Guy and keep it in the road!
A Military Honors graveside service was held at 1pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Oaklawn Cemetery on San Jose Blvd. The family knows that someday they will be reunited with him in heaven. Dates TBD.
