Harold Glenn Dowdy was born in Baxter, Tennessee in 1925 to Early Clyde Dowdy and Mary Dowdy (Swallows). He left this world to be with the Lord on July 31, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida. He served in the 100th infantry in France and Germany during WWII. After the war he returned to St. Cloud, Florida where he married his beloved wife of 68 years, Celeste Mann. He then graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s in Education in 1953. He began preaching the Gospel in High Springs, Florida and continued spreading the Gospel throughout the nation by means of radio broadcasting, tent meetings, and local congregations.
He is survived by his wife, Celeste; children, Sharon Barber (Randy), Lynn Warren, Glenn Dowdy (Sherri), Richard Dowdy (Ginnelle); grandchildren, Bryan, Kelly, Christy, John, Josh, Savannah, Travis, Kate, and Morgan; as well as six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, August 3rd, 2015 at Hardage- Giddens, Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private interment will follow at Mandarin Cemetery.
