Helen Meda John, 88, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020. She was born to parents Mike and Anne Meda and raised in Detroit, Michigan. While vacationing in Jacksonville, Florida, she met her husband. Within a matter of months, she and Tony were united in marriage at Christ Church in Detroit, Michigan on May 28, 1955. Immediately taking up residency in Jacksonville, they started a family.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Mike and William, sisters, Hedy and Lee, and by her husband, Tony of 48 years. Aside from Helen, many knew and called her “Sug,” a nickname given to her by her husband. She is survived by two loving daughters, Stephanie Lupo (John) and Toni Sieke (Sam), four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister Alice, and sister-in-laws Sandy, Georgia and Louise. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, situ, great-situ, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Her love and devotion was to her husband and children and her forte was cooking in the kitchen! Never a hungry soul in the house. She was affiliated with All Saints Episcopal Church, a member of Syrian Ladies Charity Society, and also a long time member of The Salaam Club, where she enjoyed fellowship with family and friends. Being one of the “back room poker girls” was one of her favorite pastimes enjoyed by her and many. Aside from family, this fellowship and closeness to her heritage was always near and dear to her heart.
A private family burial is planned at a later date.
Donations can be made in Helen’s memory to The Salaam Club of Florida, 8101 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32216 or to Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, 6803 Southpoint Parkway, Jacksonville, Florida 32216.
