Helen Rita Thomas (Momma Girl) went home to God's Heaven on May 29th, where she joined our Dad, Glacey Thomas, the love of her life to be together again in watching over all of us. Helen was a lover of life, a devoted Mother, wife, grand and great grandmother, sister, friend and a strong love of God's Goodness. She never gave less than all of herself to each person, task or endeavor and possessed the unique ability to make each person in her life feel exceedingly special. Her greatest treasures were her children, grand and great grandchildren.
Our "Momma Girl" was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Louise and Fredrick Neustadhl. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and married Daniel Glacey Thomas, Sr. during World War II. They were a fabulous team as parents and she helped him establish Thomas Concrete Contracting business, while raising 4 kids and constantly helping make a better community. She and Glacey were one of the founding members of the Southside Christian Church, when it made its move from San Marco to Pottsburg Creek. The Shriners were one of their most active endeavors in helping them to help others. They were one of the N.E. Florida's greatest and most entertaining Ballroom Dance couples and loved creating a fun home where all their Kid's friends from Landon High and Southside Grammar would enjoy happy and safe weekends.
Helen is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Morgan (Jax), June Long (Utah), and Joy Stout (Orlando); her children, Dr. Daniel G. Thomas, Jr. and wife Edie, Rita Williams Powers and husband Warren, Terry Duguid and husband Bill, Guy Thomas and wife, Michelle, Joe Spaner and wife Millie; eleven (11) Grandchildren: Tammy Williams Doerer, Alaine Williams Ducharme, Terry Williams, Dawn Williams Leitz, Wade Powers, Chris Thomas, Melissa Thomas, Lisa Duguid Lapkovitch, Ben Duguid, Amy Duguid Summerlin and Cassie Duguid; nineteen (19) Great Grandchildren: Camden & Casey Doerer, Jordan & Jake & Thomas Ducharme, Emma & Peyton & Rachel & Morgan Leitz, Marshall & William Powers, Hunter & Alexandra Thomas, Billy & Charis Lapkovitch, Gillian Duguid, Emery Duguid & Brantley & Kathleen Summerlin; and her Happy Grand Dogs: Roxy Wiliams. Kaluha Leitz. Bear & Scarlitt Duguid, Maggie Thomas
After the loss of her Glacey in 1975, she was given another partner in life, Joseph Spaner, who became a great new love in the family with his son, Joe. After the loss of Joseph in 2002, she was honored with another cherished dancing partner, Charles Castonguay, who pampered and loved our gorgeous Momma Girl until her time to join the Angels in Heaven.
A Grand Celebration of Helen's Life, our Mom welcomes all that loved and knew her to join us at one o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 1st at the House she was most responsible for making a real Family Home, located at 9033 Kings Colony Rd, 32257. A private burial for her with the family will be held Monday, June 2nd at Oaklawn Cemetery.
We have been so blessed in our lives to have had Helen, Our Mom, Our Momma Girl, who will be remembered for her radiant smile, illuminating spirit, compassionate heart, selfless generosity, and her unyielding ability to light up any room with her beauty and hilarious "Laugh Out Loud" personality. She could always turn our sad times into hope of what goodness awaits us in the future. She will always be in our heart and we all will strive to be as good a person as she was and make her proud as she follows us from Heaven. God is Good!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Florida. The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice for their caring support and compassion in her final days! They kept her feeling beautiful...very special people!
