

He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War earning the National Defense, Army of Occupation and Good Conduct Medals. After military service he graduated from Georgia Southern. Al then worked as a Logistics Manager for SEMCO in Savannah and then was relocated to Jacksonville in the late 60’s, raising 2 daughters with his wife Barbara in Arlington until the mid 80’s. He then relocated to San Souci where he was actively involved in the community. He had a huge sweet tooth, loved gardening and being in the sunshine. He suffered from Alzheimer’s living his last years at Beach House Memory Care, Jacksonville Beach where he was known as Big Al; always with a smile and jovial spirit.
He is survived by his daughters Denise (Paul) Grant and Erin (Zeke) Pegram and 5 grandchildren Melanie and Michaela Grant, Melissa (Joe) Erdman, Reilly and Evan Baxter Pegram who affectionately called him G-Pa as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a small COVID-safe Graveside Service, with military honors at Greenlawn Cemetery.
