Jacksonville – Hubert Daniel “Dan” Parker, Jr. passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017. His mother and father, Hubert Daniel Parker, Sr. and Edith Bost Parker and his beloved wife of fifty years, Ruth S. Parker, preceded him in death. Survivors include his five children, Dan (Lou Ann) Parker, Bud (Natalie) Parker, Dennis Parker, Diane P. Hunter and Monica P. (Bob) Esposito; Seventeen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; and many friends. He loved his family and friends (affectionately known by many as Da-boy) and this love was returned. Dan was born on September 27, 1930 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was raised in Jacksonville Beach and graduated from Fletcher High School Class of 1949. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Atlantic Beach Presbyterian Church. Dan also attended the University of Florida. He served in the USMC as a Captain and was a pilot of the F4U Corsair and the F6F Hellcat. During his military tenure, he became a flight instructor for the transition of prop planes to jets. He loved to tell the story of how he once flew from Florida to California and actually set foot in the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean on the same day. After his military service, he was employed 30 plus years with the State of Florida Job Service. During retirement, Dan enjoyed his family, keeping up with his lawn, feeding his backyard birds, and surf fishing at Little Talbot Island, his favorite fishing spot. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
