Irvin "Sonny" Burton Connell Jr.

IRVIN (SONNY) BURTON CONNELL, JR., of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022. He was a retiree of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and a veteran of the United States Army. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of 57 years; his children Carol Mize, Robert Connell, and Debra Owens (Mike); his grandchildren Hannah Kleiber, Lindsey Mize, and Michael Owens; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Criminology and from North Florida University with a Master's degree in Education. He was a long time member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church and belonged to Arlington Masonic Lodge #309 F&AM Scottish Rite, and Shrine, and he was an active member of the Provost Guard, NARC, FOP, and was an avid FSU fan. He served three years in the military before entering into law enforcement with the City of Jacksonville. He retired as a Sergeant in 2002 after 42 years of service. The family visitation to greet friends will be held on Sunday, March 27 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mandarin Presbyterian Church, 12001 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, Florida with Pastor Jeff Arnold and Police FOP Chaplain Clarence Jarrell officiating.

A visitation for Sonny will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223. A funeral service will occur Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Mandarin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
