OBITUARY

James Lindsey Hutcheson

James Lindsey Hutcheson, or “Hutch”, as he was known to family and friends was born on September 25th, 1927, in Bentonville, Arkansas, and passed from this life to life eternal March 30th, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by two sons: Gary, and wife, Tammy, of Yulee, Florida, and Roger, and wife, Sue, of Rossville, Georgia; four grandchildren: Andrew Hutcheson, Heather King, Bobby Hutcheson, and Ricky Hutcheson; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Crystal Douglas, two brothers and a sister. “Hutch” enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II while he was still underage. Following the war he served in the Reserve for a time. Following marriage in 1946, he and his spouse moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was employed by McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation. He also worked for the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, Georgia, for several years. Some of the major projects in which he participated during his career were the development of the B-52 Bomber, the C-130 “Hercules” Transport, the C-5A Super Cargo Plane, the Skybolt Ballistic Missile, and the Gemini Space Program. He retired in 1989, as the Senior Tool Design Engineer for McDonnell-Douglas. He coached his sons in Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. Following retirement he and his wife relocated to Rossville, Georgia, and later moved to Owasso, Oklahoma. For the last three years he was a resident of the Brookdale Southside Retirement Community in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene serving in various lay leadership responsibilities and teaching Sunday School for many years. He also served as a member of Liberty University’s Board of Regents. He loved his family, our country, the church, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Georgia Bulldogs, Southern Gospel music, the Atlanta Braves, fried catfish, and chicken and dumplings. He will be missed by his family and friends in the retirement community. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care.
