

James was born in Tampa, Florida July 2, 1926, lived many years in St. Augustine, and moved to Jacksonville in 1960. He was a C.L.U. with Mutual of New York for 45 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He regularly attended San Jose Episcopal Church and was a member of Woodworkers of America and Odd Fellows Lodge.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Winifred Rowand. He is predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his brother John L. Rowand of St. Augustine, Florida, sister, Carolyn Fiduccia, and brother-in-law James Cunningham of Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by 3 sons, James (Linda), Donald (Cathy), and Thomas (Donna) as well as 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
While his first love was always his family, James also enjoyed several hobbies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons. Additionally, James was an avid woodworker and each year made hundreds of toys which benefited local charities.
The family will receive friends at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel on San Jose Blvd. from 6-8PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 1pm with Fr. Steph Britt officiating. Graveside services to follow.
