
SHEPARD James “Jim” Shepard, died at home on Wednesday morning, July 11, 2007. He was 83 years old, born July 8, 1924 in Wilmington, North Carolina, the youngest of 5 children. His early years were spent in Wilmington, NC where he married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline Long, and began his career with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, and later the Seaboard Coastline Railroad. In 1960, the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida with the railroad. From that time to the present the Shepard family has lived in the Arlington and Fort Caroline neighborhoods. Jim retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad in 1983. Jim was very active at Parkwood Baptist Church and especially enjoyed his Sunday School Class, and its members. Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Timothy Shepard. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline “Polly” Shepard, his daughter, Paula S. McGarvey and her husband James N. McGarvey, Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Megan Shepard McGarvey, Timothy Sean McGarvey and Matthew Somerfeld McGarvey; 2 special family members, James Naughton McGarvey III & Michael Covington McGarvey, all of Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday July 13, 2007 at Parkwood Baptist Church, 7900 Lonestar Road with Rev. Larry R. Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery, Lonestar Road. Visitation will be held at Parkwood Baptist Church 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4114 Sunbean Road, Ste. 101, Jacksonville, FL. 32257. Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. in charge of arrangements.
