

Born January 24, 1927, in Hazelhurst, Ga, she moved to Jacksonville in 1944, and resided there for most of her remaining life.
Nell pursued a career in accounting, and was employed by Independent Life Insurance, retiring after42 years of dedicated service. She was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, and past member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, NC. She was a past member of the Symphony Guild, St. Vincent’s Auxiliary Guild, and Assumption Women’s Catholic Guild. She was also an excellent baker, and took pleasure in sharing her time and gifts with others. After moving to Highlands, NC in 2015, she developed an interest in painting, and was both accomplished and prolific in this endeavor. She was lovingly referred to as the other Grandma Moses. Health care needs brought her back to Jacksonville in 2020, where she resided in Windsor Assisted Living Facility. She more recently moved to Starling on San Jose to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Arthur F. Powers and Walter E. Grace. Her son Arthur Carlton Powers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl P. Starkey (Robert) of Jacksonville, a sister, Bettie Sue Kerrigan (Richard) a stepdaughter, Susan Grace of Rome, Italy, two stepsons Walter Grace (Tracy) of Glendale, AZ, and Paul Grace (Janet) of Panama City Beach, Fl.; sister-in-laws, Dudley Grace, Anne Grace and Betty Grace (Robert) all of Jacksonville; and four step-grandchildren.
A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St Marks Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, or Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
