Jimmy Austin Whitaker, 78, passed away May 24, 2011 in Jacksonville, FL at Community Hospice of NE Florida. Jimmy was born December 25, 1932 in Gordon, AL to CB and Lois Whitaker. He served in the US Army and retired from the US Border Patrol and the Army Reserve. Jimmy was also a long-term, active member of Hogan Baptist Church. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gayle I. Whitaker; children Marchetta (Tim) Tucker and Jay (Janelle) Whitaker; grandchildren Aaron (Sarah) and Jodi Whitaker, Tara, Kali, Kasey and Jessy Tucker; sisters Sara Carlisle and Alma Jean Whitaker and numerous other relatives. The family will receive friends 6-8pm Thursday, May 26 at Greenlawn Chapel, 4300 Beach Blvd. The funeral service will be held 11am Friday, May 27 at Hogan Baptist Church, 8045 Hogan Rd., with Pastor Peter Copeland officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions to be made in Jimmy’s memory to Hogan Baptist Church or Community Hospice of NE Florida. Arrangements by Greenlawn Funeral Home.
