Joseph "Joe" George Chorbak Jr. passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020 while holding the hand of the love of his life. He was born June 7, 1947 to Joseph and Julia (Sanyigo) Chorbak of Englishtown, New Jersey. Joe was the oldest of four brothers, but was notoriously the shortest. He will be severely missed by his brothers Art and Rich, but will join his brother Fran in the afterlife.
Joe joined the Navy as an Airedale during the Vietnam Conflict because he knew (and was right) his draft number would be called, although he couldn't swim at all. He was a proud Class III floater and maintained that until his death. He proudly served on the USS Forrestal and took the maiden voyage on the USS John F. Kennedy, during which he read survival books and memorized where every life boat was located and the fastest route to them.
After serving in the Navy he became a car-hauler, where he would learn every word to Boxcar Willie Truck Driving Favorites. When the government heard that they decided to hire him as a letter carrier at the Post Office to keep an eye on him. They continued to watch him for the next 27 years, until finally realizing he just had weird taste in music and retired him to continue with it.
Joe married Lori Langdon on August 12, 1978 and shared 41 years of marriage. During which Lori completed all tasks to be looked at for saint-hood. He was a devoted husband and loved Lori immensely. He filled her life with lots of good laughs and never ending surprises.
Joe and Lori had two children together to call their own, Thomas and Caitlan, both of which were his pride and joy. He would religiously show up at all times of night when called by them, but would never let them forget it either. He was a wonderful father and instilled great values in them both.
Joe never met a person he couldn't talk to, which led to an amazing amount of friendships through the years. He was an avid card player and would take any advantage he could get. He would tell you to tuck in your hand only after looking at them first. Joe also loved to watch football, his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers, although he lived in Jacksonville and was from New Jersey.
Being that Joe was a devout Roman Catholic and would haunt everyone if we didn't have his funeral at the church, his viewing will be held at 9 am Wednesday, February 12th, at Christ the King Catholic Church, followed immediately by mass and a reception. Following the reception he will be entombed at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery at 1:30pm with military honors.
