John worked as baker and construction laborer in his youth before completing his compulsory military service in the Greek Navy where he maintained artillery and worked as a cook. He then joined the merchant marines which brought him to America.
John married Antoinette Amorgianos (nee Magos) in 1970 in Jacksonville Florida. While he never lost his love of Greece and Greek culture, John became a proud and patriotic United States Citizen. He made it a point to stay informed on politics in order responsibly vote in each election.

Additionally, John was a member of the American Hellenic Educational and Progressive Association (AHEPA) Socrates Chapter 6.
In his free time, John enjoyed fishing and was an accomplished cook. He put his culinary skills to frequent use for St John the Divine parish luncheons and the Greek Festival as well as for the AHEPA. John enjoyed Greek dancing and loved Greek music. He attended the annual Greek American Pan-Icariot dance in Tarpon Springs on numerous occasions. John was a loving father, grandfather and devoted husband, beloved by all who knew him.
