John was born in Connellsville, PA on August 9, 1937 to Angela and Charles F Donnelly. He passed peacefully on January 4th, 2019 and was 81 years old. John had two siblings, Charles Donnelly, deceased and a sister, Carol Ann Spellerberger, who currently resides in Kansas City Missouri.
John graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville, PA in 1955. He went on to receive his Associates degree in Engineering in 1958 and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Dayton in Dayton, OH in 1960.
John was proud of his service which included 6 years and 11 months with the Pennsylvania National Guard and he was an active Army reservist for 11 months. He was honorably discharged in September, 1962 with a total of almost 8 years of service.
John had a 30+ year career in banking and finance. He retired from Citibank after a 26 year career with his last position as Vice President, Corporate Compliance Officer in St. Louis, MO. Prior to Citi, John held different positions with various financial institutions including Associates, and Gallatin National Bank.
John was the founder and first President of St. Vincent DePaul's at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church in St. Johns, Florida. John was also very active with the Ronald McDonald house in downtown Jacksonville, taught confirmation classes at San Juan Del Rio and helped low income families prepare their tax returns thru The United Ways- RealSense program. He also served on a variety of church councils and school boards thorough out his lifetime.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maryrose Donnelly and his two sons, John and Bryan. Maryrose and Bryan currently reside in St. Johns, Florida and John currently resides in Edwardsville, Illinois. John also has 4 grandchildren with Madison, Blake and Mackenzie living in St. Johns, Florida and Amilia Rose residing in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9th with Vigil Prayers at 7:00 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 10th in San Juan Del Rio Parish, 1718 FL-13 Jacksonville, FL 32259
