

John Quincy Floyd, 99, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2017 at Community Hospice Bailey Center, Saint Augustine, Florida. He was born April 20, 1918 in Eufaula, Alabama to John Quincy and Ludie James Floyd. He grew up in Baker Hill, near Eufaula, surrounded by family, farmland, forests, and the Baker Hill Methodist Church, founded by his family in the early 1800’s. There he developed his love of family, church, outdoors, and sports; and his lifelong strength of character and quiet, warm, gentlemanly demeanor. On November 18, 1940, he married Nann B. Bass of Enterprise, Alabama and became a loved and loving member of the extended Bass family. Following retirement from his 35 year career with Greyhound Bus Lines, he was a transportation consultant in Jacksonville, Florida.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Nann, the love of his life for 64 years; by his brothers, Donald and Dr. Edwin Floyd, and his sister, Sallie Floyd; and by his grandson, John J. Floyd. He is survived by his daughters and sons, Gloria (Richard) Strauss Wymer, Janice (James) O’Neill, John M. (Holly) Floyd and Gerald A. Floyd; by his granddaughter Lori Rebman( Jack) Shad and great-grandchildren, Michael and Jane Quincy; and his granddaughter Leah Anne Floyd and great-grandchildren, Ian and Vittoria. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and cousins in the Floyd, James, and Bass families; by dear neighbors on Kings Colony Rd.; by close friends at San Jose Baptist Church and throughout the country.
Private services will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. (visitation from noon to 2 pm, service at 2 pm, followed by burial and reception). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, 32257.
