He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Delaine; daughter Brittany (Thomas) Cavanaugh; grandchildren Ayden John and Lyna Grace; siblings Sharon Edwards, Larry (Marsha) Hughes and Phyllis Davis; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws , whom he loved very much.
He is preceded in death his parents, Richard & Velda Hughes, parents-in-law, Charlie & Estelle Davis, and sister Sandy Chase.
John was a computer programmer by trade, writing software for the liquid propane industry. He enjoyed watching football—especially the Florida State Seminoles and the Jaguars— and watching the Tampa Bay Rays. He also loved going to the beach and playing golf.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 26 from 5–7pm at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home at 4300 Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 27 at 11am at Lineage Church at 6857 Southpoint Parkway in Jacksonville, with graveside service to follow at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery.
