Judy was born on August 16, 1944 to Eloise and Daniel Winner in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was raised and lived throughout her entire life.
She attended Englewood High School and was a member of the class of 1962. Following high school, Judy worked for Southern Bell and later had a longstanding career in medical office management.
Judy married the love of her life, Jon on April 20, 1972 and welcomed one son, Danny, in the years that followed. In their 52 years of marriage, Judy and Jon shared a deep commitment to each other, their faith and family.
She had a lifelong love of books and enjoyed several close friendships forged in mutual love of reading. Judy also had an exceptional talent for cooking and baking, always eager to try a new recipe, but with long-standing southern family classics that fed not only the bodies of those she loved, but also their souls. She shared her love and cared for those around her through her culinary talent.
While Judy had many talents, one of the finest was her ability to make those around her feel comfortable. An amazing conversationalist, she could make a friend in any room and was never short on compassion or prayer for anyone.
In retirement, Judy found her greatest joy in becoming a grandmother to her beloved Garner. The only grandson of her only son, she was perfectly content in any activity with her ‘sugar booger’. The two had an incredibly special relationship, which was clear to anyone who saw them. They loved building, playing Family Feud, reading, baking, doing puzzles, and many other activities together. She was as hands-on as a grandmother could possibly be, picking him up from school every day and spending countless hours together during summer breaks.
Judy’s huge heart was not limited however to her grandson. Of all her accomplishments, she was the most proud of her family, particularly her son, Danny. Never has a mother loved a son more than she loved her ‘Boog’.
She had conviction and wouldn’t hesitate to speak up for what was right, be it popular or not. She was classy, witty, charming, beautiful, and most importantly, a selfless Christian woman, who chose to spread kindness and serve the Lord – and she will be missed dearly.
Judy was preceded by her mother and father, Eloise and Daniel Winner. She is survived by her beloved husband Jon Walsh, son: Danny (Shelly) Walsh, and her pride and joy, her grandson Garner.
A service celebrating her life will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223, before being laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in a private family graveside service. Friends and relatives will be received by the family beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
To continue her legacy of compassion and serving others, memorials may be given in Judy’s memory to: Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
