
Julia Anna Howland Stoddard Hurley of Jacksonville passed away on Jan. 13, 2011. She was born Sept. 23, 1911, in North Woodstock, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of Scott Winfield Howland and Mary Agnes Cleary. She was the granddaughter of Moody Howland and Julia Anna Jackman. Moody Howland was a veteran of the Civil War. Her two brothers, Edward G. Howland and Maurice E. Howland, preceded her in death. Julia was the last of her generation.
During the depression, Julia moved with her family to Loudon, NH, where she was the County Nurse and did private duty nursing for Dr. Mitchell and the Shaker Village in the nearby Canterberry, NH. There she met the love of her life, James Albert Stoddard of Lower Waterford, VT. They were married eleven days later-a marriage that lasted 27 years until his death in Hialeah, FL. in January 1964 at the age of 61. Julia then worked in Physical Therapy at Hialeah Hospital for 7 years before moving to Jacksonville to be near her daughter, Carolyn.
In 1972, she married Fred Hurley of Jacksonville; they were together for 24 years until his death in January of 1997. Not only was he a gentleman, he loved to travel and enjoy life.
Julia Hurley leaves to grieve her death: a daughter, Carolyn Stoddard Adams, and husband Walter; a son, Scott George Stoddard, and wife Barbara; four grandchildren; Douglas James Morris (Eva), Walter Stoddard Adams (Cindi), Shannon Beusse (Jon), Kelly Premo (Jason), 8 great grandchildren; Meghan (Jack),Erin, Ashlee, Madison, April, Spencer, Anna, Sophia, one great great granddaughter Alena. She also leaves a niece and several nephews.
