Esther “LeAnn” Jones Hargett went to be with her lord and savior at the age of 70 years old on August 26, 2021 at her home in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on March 25, 1951 in Salina, KS to Barbara (Nelson) Shufelburger and Allen Heath Jr. She was adopted in June 1959 at the age of 8 to her paternal grandparents, Howard and Lois (McMichael) Jones. She met and married her first husband, James Brannon, and had 2 children; Scott and Melissa. They later divorced and LeAnn then married Eligah (Chuck) Hargett lll. They divorced after 17 years and LeAnn remained unmarried for the remainder of her years.
LeAnn graduated from Garinger High School, Charlotte, NC, in 1969. After high school, she worked in the banking industry for 17 years and Duke Power for 12 years. LeAnn moved to Florida in 2013 and was employed by Best Fence Co. of Jacksonville until her death.
LeAnn enjoyed many clubs and activities. She belonged to the Lions Club and Gem/Mineral Club in North Carolina. She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Matthews, NC for approximately 15 years. There she was a Youth S.S. teacher, VBS helper, Offering counter, Choir member, and did a mission trip to Brazil in 2001. In 2015 she joined Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. LeAnn participated in Women of the Word (W.O.W.) Sunday school class and was a door greeter. She spent many years researching her family ancestry and enjoying astrology.
LeAnn is survived by her two children; Scott Brannon and wife, Christy of Piedmont, SC and Melissa Burnett and husband, Chris of Jacksonville, FL, three grandchildren; Killian, Beau, and Lathan, five siblings; Joe Willis, Larry Willis, Daniel Heath, James Willis, and Carolyn Potchik.
LeAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Carl Willis.
The celebration of life for LeAnn will be conducted at 5:30pm Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Deermeadows Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL with Pastor Larry Yarborough officiating. There will be a gathering immediately following in Founders Hall. We would ask in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing in her name.
