Lilly Mae Griffin passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 93. Lilly was a gracious and beautiful woman born in Taccoa, Georgia to Frank and Nina Odom. She had a sister Jerry and brother Frank that have all passed away before her. She met the love of her life Herman, married 69 years, at a Jacksonville Beach dance pavilion where they showed everyone how it was really done. They married and had Diane Law (Gordon), moved to Tallahassee then Woody (Eileen) and Scott (Payton) were born. She loved FSU football where they dressed up for every game and with all their friends watched an unknown Burt Reynolds play. She played golf at the country club and watched celebrity tournaments and she loved her life.
Moving to Jacksonville she found a love of renovating a large house on River Road and eventually building in Deerwood where they lived for 43 years. They bought a house on St Augustine Road and she and Jane Shaffer started Lilly Jane Antiques and added on a refinishing business. They created the first mini-antiques mall in Jacksonville. She successfully sold it years later.
She was a member of the Women's Guild in the 70's, supporting the Nutcracker Ballet each year it was presented in Jacksonville. She traveled extensively to New York City, the Hudson River Valley, North Carolina Mountains, Georgia, Japan, and Malaysia, expanding her knowledge of where we had been as a culture. Our Mom was a loving and kind grandmother to her 6 grandchildren, Erica, Adrienne, Ryan, Rachel, Sarah (Michael), Samantha and great-grandchildren Shawn and Ian. We are a close family and our sorrow runs deep.
A Celebration of Lilly’s life will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Redeemer Episcopal Church, 7500 Southside Blvd. In lieu of flowers please donate in Lilly’s name to a charity of choice.
