Marian Canon Dickson

Born in New London, CT on December 14, 1944 Marian was the beloved wife of her late husband, Steve Dickson and devoted mother to her daughters, Joanna Smith and Jennifer Dickson. She was a superior teacher of secondary school advanced mathematics known for ability to guide just about any student to understand the complexity of the subject.

Among Marian’s most significant accomplishments was raising her two daughters, whom she loved unconditionally and lovingly caring for her ailing husband until his death in 2009. Her legacy is a pillar of strength above all circumstances and unwavering commitment to her friends and family. Her life served a testament to the verse in Romans 12:10 "Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another".

She was a devout Catholic who loved Jesus and was a member of San Jose Catholic Church family for several decades. She was most known for her public-school teaching career through Hospital Homebound program, teaching students math over the phone, and Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus at Stanton College Preparatory School. Through years of being the mother of two competitive swimmers, she shared that knowledge as a swim coach at Stanton for many years. In her retirement, she continued to tutor students in mathematics with her amazing talent. Marian was a die-hard Jaguars fan, owning season tickets from day one for over 25 years.

She is survived by daughters, Joanna Smith and Jennifer Dickson, her son-in-law, Shad Smith, and grandchildren, Caleb Smith and Adelina Smith. She is predeceased by her husband, Steve Dickson, parents, Walt Canon and Josephine Canon, and brother, Fred Canon.

A memorial service will be held on December 14, 2024 at San Jose Catholic Church. The Rosary will be read at 12:00 pm, Memorial Service at 1:00 pm, followed by the columbarium then a reception in the reception hall.
