Marie Virginia Brooks, age 99, passed away on August 23, 2016 at the Taylor Care Center in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on December 28, 1916 in Lake Butler, FL to Butler and Ollie Hendricks. She has been a Jacksonville area resident most of her life and prior to retirement she had worked for the I.R. S. and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, both in Jacksonville, FL. She was a member of the San Jose Church of Christ.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elijah B. Brooks, a daughter Sylvia Davis and a step-daughter, Genelle Russ.
She is survived by a son, Glenn S. Brooks (Sheila) of Forest, VA and a step-son, Deems M. Brooks (Barbara) of Warrensburg, MO. She is also survived by seven brothers, Drew, Bryan, Joe, David, Herman, Vernon, and Donald Hendricks and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Saturday August 27, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM at the Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
