Mary Alyce Hamrick Wheeler passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at her home in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born March 28, 1928 in Daytona Beach to William and Florelle (Harrell) Hamrick. She was a graduate of Landon High School and attended Stetson University. Mary Alyce was a member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. She truly lived life to the fullest by enjoying the little things. She loved to entertain, cook for her family, go shelling at Sanibel Island and create beautiful crafts from her shell collection. She worked in the dental industry for 38 years in Jacksonville, but above all, was a wonderful caregiver to her children, grandchildren and her parents.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Florelle Hamrick and sister Jarrie Hamrick Bunch. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Hamrick Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; children, David J. Kenyon of Columbia, South Carolina, Debra K. Creel of Lakeland, Florida, Jeffrey A. Wood of London, England and James R. Wood of St. Augustine; grandchildren, Jaime (Creel) Swartz of Jacksonville and Colin Creel of Bushnell; great-grandchildren, Brayden Creel of Lakeland and Saylor Swartz of Jacksonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to give a special thank you to a special caregiver, Nereyda Partridge and to the Community Hospice Nurses. Family, friends and others whose lives Mary Alyce touched are invited to attend her service at Hardage-Giddens, the Oaklawn Chapel at 11am, Monday, November 5, 2018. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
