Captain Michael Nash, U.S. Navy (Ret.), beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of eighty-six.
Born in 1939, Mike lived a life defined by service, integrity, and devotion to God, Country and family. A proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he went on to serve thirty distinguished years as a Commanding Officer in the United States Navy leading a squadron of skilled P-3 Orion professionals. Throughout his career, he exemplified leadership, discipline, and a deep commitment to his country and shipmates.
Mike shared more than sixty-five wonderful years with his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ann McCusker Nash. Together they built a home filled with laughter, loyalty, and love. He was the proud father of Timothy Nash (married to Sheri Kicklighter) and Heather Nash Dempsey (married to Mike Dempsey), and the devoted grandfather of Cameron and Kendall Nash, and Colin Dempsey—each of whom brought immense pride and joy to his heart.
After retiring from the Navy in 1992, Mike and Ann moved from Charleston, SC to Pinehurst, NC where Mike continued to serve his community as the director of the Moore County Airport and a key member of the Moore County Airport Authority. In recognition of his leadership and dedication, the airport’s terminal building was named in his honor upon his retirement—a testament to the respect and admiration he earned throughout his life.
A lifelong sports fan, Mike was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, loyal to his Duke Blue Devils, and, in recent years, an enthusiastic supporter of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He excelled in athletics himself, playing baseball and basketball all four years at the United States Naval Academy. Later in life, Mike developed a deep love for golf, spending countless enjoyable years on the course with his beloved wife, Ann, sharing laughter, friendly competition, and cherished time together.
Mike will be remembered for his commitment to the Lord, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of service, faith, and kindness lives on in the lives of all who knew him—and especially in the hearts of his family, who will carry his strength and honor with them always.
