

Jacksonville – Michael Eugene Powers, 52, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017, in Duval County. Michael was born May 24, 1965 in Fernandina Beach, FL, to Eugene and Myrtle Dixon Powers. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Eugene (2010).
Michael loved to write, to read, to laugh, to listen to all genres of music, to shred his guitar, to play his harmonica, to pick his banjo, to ride his bicycle, and to kayak the St. Johns River.
Michael graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1983. After graduating from high school, Michael joined the U.S. Navy, where he traveled the world on the U.S.S. Eisenhower. After completing his tour of duty and being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Michael attained a Certificate of Professional Bartending from the Professional Service Schools in 1987. A short time later, Michael attended Florida State University graduating in 1994 with a degree in English. Michael also continued his studies in Culinary Arts from Florida Community College at Jacksonville. After studying Culinary Arts, Michael worked in the Restaurant Industry as a Chef.
Michael was baptized in 2015 and remained a dedicated member to Resurrection Catholic Church, Jacksonville, FL. Michael also joined the Knights of Columbus attaining the Fourth Degree.
Michael is survived by his mother, Myrtle, sister, Angela Powers Meadows (daughter -Cristina), sister, Jennifer Powers Edwards (Scotty – husband, children – Morgan, Riley, Alyssa, Sydney, and Skyler), brother, Seth Adam Powers (Kelly – wife, children – Baylor and Bristol), the love of his life Marcia Myrick, and extensive family and friends.
Michael was loved by his family and friends for his quick wit, outgoing personality, free spirit, humor, and his big heart. Michael always tried to be of service to everyone. Michael will be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Michael at the Resurrection Catholic Church, 3383 University Blvd. N, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. After the Memorial Service, Michael will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 01:00 p.m. The arrangements are being made by Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32211
