She was born on September 25th, 1964 in Folkston, Georgia to Suzanne (Clarke) Nixon and Paul Haddock. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and attended Ed White High School. She moved to Georgia for college and worked there for a few years until her job transferred her to San Francisco, California. This is where she was set up on a blind date with Kurt Gerhardt by Rob and Tish Waldron. They always said it was love at first sight. Six months later, she packed her bags again and moved to Los Angeles, CA to be with Kurt. In LA, she worked for Eldon Office Supplies as a Trade Show Coordinator and was an employee of the year. Monica and Kurt started their family in LA having Amanda and Caroline. They then moved to Houston, Texas, and then back home to Jacksonville, Florida where they had Elizabeth and Joseph.
Monica devoted her life to her family. She homeschooled her children until they reached high school. She supported her children in all of their endeavors and was invested in all aspects of their lives.
Monica was a true friend. She would light up a room with her infectious smile and laugh. She was kind to all and always put others before herself.
Monica worked as a doula helping women during childbirth and then later worked at Wolfson Children's Hospital. In both of these professions she served others. She was there for people when they were at some of their most vulnerable times.
Monica loved the outdoors, nature, and animals. Monica and Kurt took countless ski trips together. She loved water skiing, kayaking, hiking, biking, long walks, yoga, and the beach. She was an avid bird watcher, and always had fresh mealworms for her bluebirds in the backyard.
Throughout her battle with cancer she was indescribably strong, always remained faithful, and never lost hope. She dedicated herself to helping others going through similar struggles with cancer.
Monica is survived by her parents, Suzanne (Clarke) Nixon and Paul Blake Haddock; her husband, Kurt Gerhardt; her children, Amanda, Caroline, Elizabeth and Joseph; her brother, Jeff Haddock; her step-father, David Nixon; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her grandparents, Anne and Marcus Clarke, and Maybelle and Paul Bailey Haddock; and aunt, Kathy Clarke.
