

Morton Benjamin, 86, passed away June 7, 2013. He was born and grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from Bronx School of Science, City College of NY. He moved to Jacksonville in the early 1950’s and attended UNF where he earned his Master’s Degree. He also served as president of the UNF Alumni Association and was a member of the UNF Foundation Board. Following graduation he was employed as a Chemical Engineer for the St. Regis Paper Company. Morton also worked for 19 years for the DEP State of Florida.
He served in the US Navy in WWII and was chosen to go to Vanderbilt University for officers training. He continued his service as a Lt in the Navy Reserve after the war.
Morton is a member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center and former member of Beth Shalom Synagogue. He volunteered as one of the first in the Jewish Healing Network - J.F.C.S. at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Morton was also a founding member of the J.C.A. and was an Associate Life Member of Hadassah. He recently attended a memoirs class at the Life Center and wrote his life story for his family.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Benjamin.
Surviving are his loving wife, Vera Boyle Benjamin, daughter, Mindy Einhorn, grand-children, Robin Einhorn and Michael Einhorn, cousins; Art Jonas, Shirley Goldenberg and Ruth Teitel, step-children; Lee Bowen and Elizabeth Alexander and five step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at New Center Cemetery inside Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 N. Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32206.
