

Murray Marvin Stokely, Jr. passed away peacefully March 2, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville, FL. He was born April 1, 1952 in Greenville, SC, the son of the late Murray Marvin and Wyline Baird Stokely. He attended Augusta Circle Elementary, Hughes Middle, and J L Mann High School. He played on the Varsity Tennis Team each year in high school and helped the team win the state championship twice. He attended Erskine College on a tennis scholarship , serving as captain of the tennis team his senior year. He graduated in 1974 with a BS Degree in Business Administration. Murray was employed at Grumman Aerospace in St. Augustine, FL as Manager of Financial Planning and Controls up until his retirement. During retirement he enjoyed boating from the Julington Creek Marina, landscaping, and his dogs. Murray is survived by his son, Murray M. Stokely III (Luisa) of Los Altos, CA and their four children Ava, Anja, Lara, and Ian with another son due in April. He is also survived by his sister, Wyline Holder (Eddie) and their four children Whitney Blum (Justin) and Stokely Holder (Beth) of Greenville, SC, Paul (Sallie) Holder of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Lindsey Holder (Katie) of Charleston, SC. He is survived by another nephew, Miles Bowman (Melissa) of Easley, SC. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Lucy Stokely of Oakland, CA. In addition to his parents, Murray was predeceased by his daughter, Monica Stokely and brother Baird Bowman. In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to the Monica Christina Stokely Scholarship Fund (#F014233), University of Florida, PO Box 14225, Gainesville, FL, 32604-2425. A private family gathering with dispersion of the ashes will be held at a later date in Jacksonville.
