

A graduate of Louisville Male High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1945, and served at a number of Air Bases in Newfoundland where he met his future wife. After his release from Active Duty, he returned to Louisville, where he worked for the L&N R.R.Co., rising to the position of Vice-President and Comptroller before the L&N was acquired by the CSX R.R., and he was transferred to Jacksonville, FL prior to retiring. During his tenure with the L&N, he graduated from the University of Louisville in 1963; played saxophone in a local "Big Band Era" orchestra; and served in various positions with the Jefferson Co. Recreation Dept.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anastasia H. Stier; children, Norman H. Stier, Jr. (Pamela), Patricia A. Smith (“Mike”), Donna M. Richardson (Drew), Gary T. Stier (Yelena), and William J. Stier; brother, Donald J. Stier (Yvonne); 13 grandchildren; along with numerous great grandchildren and in-laws in the US and Canada.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17th in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 18th in San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32217 with Father Thomas Moore as Celebrant, followed by interment at 2:00 p.m. in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32218.
Memorial contributions in Norman’s name may be made to San Jose Catholic Church Building Fund.
