WEBB: Philip A. Webb, III passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2017. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 6, 1928 to Philip A. Webb, Jr. and Katherine Thomas Webb. He and his parents moved to Jacksonville from Coral Gables in 1939. He attended Fishweir Elementary, John Gorrie Junior High, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1946. During that period, he was active in Lee High activities, including athletics and in the Eagle Scouts, receiving the Cameron Dart Award as the Outstanding Scout in 1943. He also served in various roles in Riverside Park United Methodist Church which sponsored Troop #21. He remained a member and supporter of that church until his death. Upon graduation, Philip entered the University of Florida and became a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He completed R.O.T.C training and received an appointment as a 2nd Lt. He earned his degree in Business Administration in 1949 and his law degree in 1952. Two days after graduation from law school, he reported to active duty to the US Army serving as a JAG officer. Upon his release from service, he returned to Jacksonville and entered private practice of law specializing in personal injury litigation. He married his college sweetheart, Nancy Louise Blair, with whom he had two daughters. He retired after fifty years as a trial attorney during which he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Federal 11th and 5th District Court of Appeal and all Florida state courts. He was a past President of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association and the Southeastern Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the Federation of Insurance Council, National Association of Insurance and Corporate Council, Association of Railroad Trial Council, the Florida Bar Association, Jacksonville Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He was a past President of the Jacksonville Exchange Club.
He was predeceased in death by Nancy in 1968. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Sells Webb; his daughters, Nancy Katherine Webb (Lennie) and Leslie Finch (Brian); three grandchildren, Cameron Finch Mukherjee (Sean), Katherine and Carter Finch; and step-son, Michael Sells (Khara).
There will be a graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. at 11:30am, Saturday, June 24, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donation in Phil's memory can be made to Riverside Park United Methodist Church, 819 Park St., Jacksonville, FL 32204 or Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
