

REVELS - Mr. Phillip Revels passed away at his residence on Friday, June 19, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. Phillip was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 30, 1957 but grew up in Pembroke, North Carolina. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Navy. Through his 20 year military career, he did well and rose to the rank of E-7, Gunner's Mate Chief with an enlisted surface warfare certification. His career took him to many places: Philippines, Guam, Thailand, Italy, Venice, Hong Kong, Jordan, Turkey, Spain, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Columbia - just to name a few. He served in several wars and after serving his final tour of duty on the USS Underwood (FFG-36), he retired from his service in November 1996. Phillip enjoyed a few hobbies. He loved to watch his beloved Washington Redskins and Chicago Bulls. He and Rowena enjoyed exploring new cities, cooking at home and fishing. Camping and sitting around the campfire telling stories was one of his favorite things to do. He loved to grill in his backyard and enjoy a home cooked meal while surrounded by family and friends. Road trips, taking photos, categorizing his photos, collecting postcards from his worldly travels were all things he enjoyed immensely.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wonderful wife of 41 years, Rowena Revels, his daughter, Alma Revels-Shirley, son-in-law, Wil Shirley, brother, Michael Revels and his three sons, Michael, Austin and Noah Revels, brother, Eric Revels, his daughter Rachael and son Jullian Revels, brother-in-law Daryl Gunderman, sister-in-law Vangie Gunderman and their daughter Andrea Fritz, sister-in-law Ting Parker and her son Clinton Parker and daughter Stephanie Parker. Phillip also has extended family in North and South Carolina (Revels, Brooks and Locklear) that he spoke of often while telling stories. He loved his family both near and far. Phillip Revels will be deeply missed by many. He will be remembered most for his honesty, hard work and devotion to his faith and family.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 28, 2020 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Corey Kerlin Funeral Home 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32211 904-744-842. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road
Jacksonville, FL 32218 with Military Honors.
