With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Polly Arlene Witten. She was a dedicated nurse, mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away in her home on April 24, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born in 1956, Polly was a true child of the ‘70s, embodying the spirit of peace, love, and rock 'n' roll throughout her vibrant life. A graduate of Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, she earned her nursing degree in 1976 and began her long career in healthcare. She spent a large portion of those years as a hospice nurse, bringing palliative comfort and compassion to patients and their families during their time of transition.
Outside of work, Polly was a true hippie at heart. Known for wearing tie-dye, cut-off jeans, and flip-flops, she embraced life with a contagious joy. Her love of rock music filled her home, and her spirit was as wild and free as the songs she grew up with. Polly also had an immense love for dogs, both past and present, and would have gladly filled her house with them if she could. They were her faithful companions, and she showered them with the same love and attention she gave to her family and friends.
Above all, she was a devoted mother/grandmother to her son, Gideon Witten, and his daughters, Jade and Krissy, as well as to her daughter, Chelsea (Niki) Goolsby, and their daughters, Kasyn and Jordyn. Her children were the light of her life, and she always provided them with guidance and strength, offering her unwavering support in her own unique way.
She is survived by her brothers, Michael (Irene) Witten and David Witten and a number of lifelong friends.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Gladys Witten and her partner, Jimi Stockman.
Polly's family, friends, and colleagues will forever remember her for her radiant energy and her one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Her infectious laugh, quirky charm, and free-spirited nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Polly’s life will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Seaside Socials in Jacksonville Beach from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Guests are welcome to stop by at any time during these hours to share memories and honor her life.
A Nurses Honor Guard Ceremony will take place at 12:00 PM as a special tribute, recognizing her 50 years of dedicated and compassionate service in nursing.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the music, love, and carefree spirit she embraced so fully!
