

Reed was a native of Jacksonville, FL and attended Spring Park Elementary School and graduated from Landon High School in 1953.Upon graduation Reed began a career with Western Electric and stayed with the bell system retiring from AT&T in the middle 90's. Reed continued his career through EF&I telephone equipment company until formally retiring in the early 2000's.
Upon retirement Reed focused on his personal passion with the Landon Alumni as President for 20 years.
Reed was a member of the Lions Club international for many years serving as President and other capacities. Reed also attended First Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his father, Reed L. Tillis Sr., his mother; Audrey West Tillis, a son Richard Kirby Tillis USMC; His first wife and mother of his children, Annette Freeman Tillis and his brother, Claude Tillis.
He is survived by his children: Ivy (Tillis) Summery and Reed L. Tillis III (Sherry); his 5 grandchildren: Blake E. Summey (Alexis), Amy Leigh (Amanda), Reed L. Tillis IV, Buddy Tillis (Chris) and Jessica Lee Tillis; his sister, Anna Ford, Davis Cripps, life partner, Sandra Ramsey Von Sonnenberg.
Thank you to the Community Hospice Hadlow Center for Caring for the gentle hands and loving care they provided daddy in his last days with us.
A visitation for Reed will be held Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A graveside service will occur Monday, January 23, 2023 immediately following the funeral service, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
