

Robert Stephen “Steve” Devinney, 66, passed away suddenly on May 22, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Lena Snipes Devinney. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Devinney; son, Brian Devinney of Lexington, KY; daughter, Melissa (Chris) Sorensen, and grandsons, Rob and Will of Cygnet, OH. He was an Air Force veteran who proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. His community service extended through his involvement as coach of numerous champion softball teams as well as the Upward sports program, prison and VA nursing home bible study programs and sports ministries at Fruit Cove Baptist Church. He dearly loved his “gym rats” who came under his fatherly eye while playing ball in the ROC. Memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, located at 501 State Road 13, Jacksonville, Florida 32259. Interment in the National Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Fruit Cove Baptist Church and earmarked for use in their prison ministry program, which was the joy of his service in his Savior’s army.
