Roger B. Koons, Jr.

Koons Jr. Roger B.,95,of Jacksonville Florida passed away on Sunday evening at 11:10 pm at Memorial Hospital of natural causes. He was the husband of the late Wahneta L. Koon’s who passed away in March 27, 2010. They were sweethearts and married for 67 years. Roger was born in Hagerstown Maryland but grew up in Jacksonville Florida with many weekends spent at the camp fishing in Palatka Florida. Roger served our country faithfully in the Army Air Force during WW2 serving in India.

After returning he spent his life working as a Truck and Auto body mechanic at his family business Koons and Koons body shop until retirement 1986. Roger loved helping others and was a lifelong member of the local Morocco Temple Shrine Club and honored being elevated to the rank of 33rd degree mason in the Scottish Rite.Roger and Wahneta loved, lived and raised a family in North Shore Jacksonville until moving to Keystone Heights to live the lake life on Little Lake brooklyn. The Koons moved back to Jacksonville to live out their days at Westminster Woods retirement community which they loved and enjoyed.

Survivors include his brother John Koons; daughter Wahneta Hewitt; son-in-law John Hicks; grandchildren, Joe Hartsfield, Melanie Shands and Matthew Hicks; great-grandchildren Michael, Dylan and Makenna; nephew Whitney and Nita Thompson; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his daughter, Joanne Hicks.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 2pm at the Hardage Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida, with Parrish Associate, Nels Falk of Mandarin Presbyterian Church officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his honor to Mandarin Presbyterian Church, 11844 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223 or the Morocco Temple , 3800 St. Johns Bluff Road S., Jacksonville, FL 32224.
