Roger Nelson, husband, beloved father, grandfather & great-grandfather, passed away on July 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born on August 5, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the fourth of eight brothers of parents Lenora & Robert Nelson.
Roger's life was filled with love and cherished connections. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Carolyn, five children, David, Lauren, Dana, John & Karey, fourteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his existence. Roger's love for his family was evident in the countless moments he spent with each of them, creating lifelong memories and sharing his wisdom.
With an MBA from the University of Miami, Roger had a successful career as the Vice President of Marketing at Southeast Atlantic Corporation, where he dedicated many years to building and developing trusted relationships in the industry. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a lifelong supporter of the Red Cross and a dedicated blood donor, an avid golfer during his career years, a frequent volunteer in the kitchen at church, and a die-hard Chicago Bears & Cubs fan.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Roger will remember him for his exceptional sense of humor. He had a natural talent for telling clever stories, leaving everyone in stitches. His dry sense of humor and infamous grampa stories are sure to be shared over and over again through generations. Roger Nelson's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy of love, humor, and leadership of his family will be carried on. His children and grandchildren will remember that no matter how many there were, he loved each of them the most.
