
Butler – Rose Jones Butler, 86, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Enterprise, Alabama to Oscar and Bess Jones. She was a longtime resident of Jacksonville and was married to Fred Butler, Sr. She attended Landon Junior-Senior High School where she was very active in extracurricular activities. After high school, she attended Duke University. Mrs. Butler was a member of Empire Point Garden Club, Empire Point Investment Club, Deerwood and San Jose Country Clubs. She was a charter member of Southside United Methodist Church, a member of the Sarah Circle, and an active church volunteer. She also worked with her son, Fred at his Mailbox Etc. business for many years and also was a community volunteer. Mrs. Butler is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, and her sister Sara Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Candy Solomon (Raymond); sons, Fred Butler and Cord Butler (Joy); six grandchildren, Matthew (Donyelle), Kristin, Kelly Solomon, Warren Butler, Ella Rose and C.J. Butler; great-grandchildren, Easa and Olivia; many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the wonderful caregiver and support staff at River Garden. Also, we are tremendously grateful to Community Hospice for embracing our mom and family with such compassion and love. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to River Garden or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Southside United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5pm till 7pm.
