Ruby Nell was born in the church parsonage of Electra, Texas where her Daddy, Rev. E.B. Crump, was the pastor and her Mother, Pearl Inez Brown Crump, was the church pianist. She had one sister, Maxine, who was eight years her elder. They moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where she attended school for eight years and then journeyed to Waxahachie, Texas where her Daddy was the Secretary of the Texas District Council of Assemblies of God. Ruby graduated from Southwestern High School (on the campus of Southwestern Bible Institute) with honors as the Salutatorian of the class of 1948. After the graduation ceremony at 11:00pm the same evening, May 21, 1948, Ruby Nell and Herbert (Herbie) Corpany, Jr. were married (he was a theological student at SBI). Herb and Ruby were the first couple to marry in the newly built University Assembly of God in Waxahachie, Texas.
Herb and Ruby pastored churches in Whitney, Tx., Holiday, Tx., and Lancaster, Tx (the latter for 27 years). At their first pastorate in Whitney, Herb was 20 and Ruby had recently turned 17. In early years, Ruby played the accordion, piano and in later years was the church organist. She enjoyed decorating their home and church each year for Christmas, other holidays and special occasions….planning weddings, showers and parties….and hosting at home and church functions. After a life-long ministry and retiring as Senior Pastors, Ruby planned and executed the staging for banquets for the local church they attended and other Christian organizations in the Dallas, Tx area. She so loved her wonderful friends in her Sunday School Class at The Oaks in Red Oak, Tx and will forever cherish their love.
Ruby was the owner of Grace’s Coat and Dress Shoppe in Red Oak, Tx for 21 years (a rather famous ladies boutique near Dallas, Tx). She was quite the fashionista turning heads all along her way!
Ruby’s son, Herb Corpany, III lives in Red Oak, Tx with his wife, Joyce. Ruby’s daughter, Sherrie Edwards lives in Saint Johns, FL with her husband, Lynn.
She was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren… Heather Deuillet and husband, Eric (Dallas, Tx)… Jeremy Cummings (Dallas, Tx)… Chet Edwards and wife, Amber (Greenback, Tn)… Rebekah Bullard (Nashville, Tn)….Taylor Corpany (Sanger, Tx)… Cameron Edwards and wife, Karen (Jacksonville, Fl)…and Elizabeth Edwards who preceded Ruby to heaven in 2008.
Lovely great-grands include Gracie Bullard, Nicholas and Alexandra Deuillet, Quinley and EJ Everett and Addie Mae Pace (yes, Add Mae was like one of her own!)
After living Deep in the Heart of Texas all of her life, Herb and Ruby moved to Jacksonville, FL. Only in her mid-eighties, never a moment to be idle, therefore she organized a monthly Christ-centered meeting at the Senior Community where they resided, all were welcome, all
attended, all were extended the love of Jesus and all flourished!
A year and a half ago, they moved into their daughter’s home and alas the business of their lives actually began to take a backseat. They finally had time to stop and smell the roses, go for strolls, enjoy the wild life (even becoming bird watchers!), most importantly they had time to listen to God’s Word being taught for hours a day and sit at the dining table before and after meals for as long as they desired reading the Bible.
Traveling, shopping, decorating, attending Broadway musicals, antiquing and eating at favorite tearooms and cafes were her hobbies.
Ruby has been a wonderful blessing to the lives of so many for 88 years!!! She was the most amazing Wife, Mother and Grandmother! She had such a gift of hospitality, she was an awesome homemaker, baker and southern cook extraordinaire, she was an encourager, never judgmental, wise advisor and mentor to so many women... and she was passionate about Jesus! Her favorite place to be was in God’s house with her family and friends!
On February 25, 2011 at an 80th family birthday celebration for Ruby, her family declared that henceforth that date would be celebrated as “The Festival of Saint Ruby”. Ruby was declared a Saint because she met the qualifications of Sainthood. 1. An extremely virtuous person having excellent moral values.
2. A person of exceptional goodness. 3. Someone excellent of her kind. 4. Someone worthy of imitation.
5. Someone who shows impressive and stylish excellence. 6. A person who has the quality of doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong.
Ruby Nell Crump Corpany was one of God’s most precious gifts and was truly a priceless treasure!
A few serious thoughts that Ruby asked that we tell you for her… ”If it doesn’t make you feel fabulous; don’t do it, don’t buy it, don’t wear it, don’t eat it and don’t keep it!”
And yes! Thankfully, GOODNESS and MERCY surely DID follow her ALL the days of her life!
Until she sees you again in that meeting in the air! Oh, what singing! Oh, what shouting! On that HAPPY morning when we all shall rise!
WORTHY IS THE LAMB!
