

Samuel “Sam” Bono, 80, left to meet his maker on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Graduating from the University of Florida in 1954, Sam was a true avid Gator and a member of the “Boy’s of 54” the TEP Fraternity. Sam was also a U.S. Airforce veteran. His life is treasured in his wit and humor, even up to his last day on earth being able to make anyone who he speaks with feel very comfortable and being able to make everybody laugh and smile. Early on in the 1950’s, Sam, was the original founder of the existing Bono’s BBQ, having developed the secret BBQ sauce. He went on to have a successful career in administrative areas with a chemical plant in Houston, Texas and thereafter moving to Galveston, Texas and then relocating to Jacksonville in 2015. His love of the financial market was well known as he continually studied stocks and bonds. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Mesod and Anna Bono; and brother, Dr. Dave Bono. He is survived by his wife, Joni Fagan Bono; Josie, “the Bono Schnauzer;” brothers-in-law, Bunky (Jane) and Donald Fagan. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 27, 2017 in Evergreen Cemetery (43rd St. & Liberty St.), 4535 Main St N, Jacksonville, FL 32206 with Rabbi Lubliner as officiant.
