Theresa (Teri) Bertus McClure passed away peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, FL on February 26, 2026 at the age of 70 after a two-year battle with cancer. Born on August 11, 1955 in Follansbee, West Virginia, she grew up in the Tri-State steel valley of the Ohio River outside Pittsburgh. Teri never knew a stranger and would always lend a helping hand to others without regard for herself. She had an infectious laugh and always drew people to her. At work or social functions, you always heard and felt her presence before you arrived. Teri always let you know who was in charge, and she was affectionately known as Sarge by her siblings.
Teri attended nursing school at West Virginia University in Wheeling and Morgantown and obtained her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) degree from the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC). After a brief stint in Virginia Beach, she followed a colleague to Jacksonville and never left. She began her career at University Hospital (UF Health) before moving on to the labor and delivery department at Memorial Hospital (HCA). She spent most of her career at the labor and delivery unit at Baptist Medical Center in downtown Jacksonville and the Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine.
Teri loved and cherished her work and family and enjoyed traveling in Europe and hiking in the American West. She was especially thrilled to have made the trek up to the Beehive above Lake Louise in Banff, Alberta the summer before her passing. An avid sports fan, Teri loved following her Mountaineers, Steelers, and Jaguars.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and JoAnn LaCross Bertus. She is survived by her husband Matthew McClure; sons Matthew Bryce and Michael Tyler McClure and their spouses Angela and Nicole; three adorable grandsons Michael, Beckett, and Mason; three inseparable siblings Susan Findling (Jeff), Brenda Kiely (Jeff), and Bernie Bertus (Debbie); her beloved sister in life Michelle Anderson and godson Joshua Anderson; her adoring father-in-law Rufus McClure; fourteen nieces and nephews; and countless friends and acquaintances she considered to be her family.
A visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens funeral home at Oaklawn Chapel and Cemetery on March 20th, 2026 at 6:00 PM. Church services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on March 21st, 2026 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities.
