Tom was born on May 15, 1941, to parents Alice and William Tierney in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Chaminade High School, Tom went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston College.
After graduating college, Tom joined the United States Marine Corps. He excelled and rose to the rank of Captain, where he flew H-34 helicopters in Vietnam.
After Vietnam, Tom returned home and started a beautiful family with his first wife Kathryn Cooke Tierney, with whom he had four children. Tom became a very successful stockbroker and financial advisor, and eventually started his own financial advisory business.
Tom married his second wife, Katy Wesley Tierney in November 2016. They shared many memories with family and friends and remained happily married until her passing in March of 2019.
Tom enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including golf; he was a proud member of San Jose Country Club, where he made many wonderful friends on and off the course. He also loved sports cars, animals, the beach, and of course his beloved Marine Corps. He also enjoyed watching his BC Eagles play football and basketball, and was also a devoted Jaguar fan through the good and bad times.
Tom was an amazing father and grandfather who always doted on his loved ones. Additionally, he was an exceedingly kind and generous man who was willing to help anyone who needed help, at any time, for any reason, without question. He was a great man who led an accomplished life. Tom also forged many lifelong friends from childhood, Boston College, and the USMC, as well as his professional career and personal life. As Tom spent his last few years at Brooks Bartram and the Greenhouse, he earned the respect and love of so many residents and staff members who grew to love him as “Captain” and called him family.
Tom was predeceased by his parents William and Alice Tierney, his brothers, John Tierney and William Tierney, and his late wife Kathy “Katy” Wesley Tierney. He is survived by his children, Thomas K Tierney Jr., Jennifer Tierney (Jerry), Kerry Tierney Rukab (Kent) and Brendan Tierney (Daphne) as well as his wonderful grandchildren Cassidy Tierney, Dylan Rukab, Kyle Rukab, and Colin Tierney.
