

Valentine George Hietter III, 93, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on March 9, 1929, to the late Valentine George Hietter, Jr. and the late Zilpah Hietter. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Redmond Hietter, and his brother, James Hietter. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Stover; son, Michael Val Hietter; sister, Zippy Doll and her husband John Doll; grandsons, John Foster and Billy Foster; nephews, John Frederick Redmond III and Zachary Doll; nieces, Marianna Williams, Judy Westbrook, and Danielle Kittrell; great-grandchildren, Michael Foster, Will Foster, and Matthew Foster; and many great-great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He served in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean war, followed by 37 years as an engineer working for Insurance Services Offices.
Mr. Hietter was a long-time member of San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered alongside his wife, managing fundraisers such as garage sales and fish fry events.
His hobbies included reading, drawing, and restoring furniture. He was always generous with his time and skills, often repairing chairs at the church or bringing life to heirloom antiques to be cherished by his children, grandchildren, and friends.
As a high school football player, a newspaper article described him as “Speedy Val Hietter” in one report. Mr. Hietter later graduated from Auburn University, and continued to support his alma mater as a lifelong Tiger fan.
He was admired and loved by his family and he will be greatly missed. Blessed with a full life on earth, he is now with his Creator and loved ones that passed before him.
A mass of christian burial for Valentine will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at 11:30 AM at San Juan Delrio Catholic Church, 1718 State Road 13, Saint Johns, FL 32259. Following the mass of christian burial will be a committal service at 2:30 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, 4214 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
