

Verna Elaine Boardman, age 98, died peacefully on Friday, June 28. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton A. Boardman; a marriage that spanned 70 years. She was also predeceased by her sister Martha and brothers Kenneth and Lionel. Verna is survived by her sister Mary, son Delos Boardman and his wife Ellen, son Edward and his wife Kelly, and son Burt and his wife Kathy. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Benjamin Boardman and his wife Sarah, Garrett Boardman and his wife Kira, Chris Boardman and Scott Boardman. Lastly she is survived by her first Great Grandchild, Beatrice Boardman, whose birth provided a wellspring of joy and hope during Verna’s last months.
Verna was no stranger to work. As a youth she worked on the Farm, Baby sat cared for her sisters, did housekeeping and cared for her dying father and Grandfather. As an adult She raised her sons, was employed full time with Pitney Bowes Inc. for 25 years, and still managed to volunteer time at her Church.
Verna’s joy blossomed on Sundays, when she would gather her family around the dining table, serving ample meals to nourish three growing boys and whoever else happened to show up enticing all with her repertoire delicious meals and homemade desserts.
Verna retired with her husband Burton to Winter Haven, FL, where she was an active member of the Auburndale Community Church, an officer in the Order of the Amaranth, did Aquarobics, and enjoyed spending time her Sister Mary, as well as numerous friends.
Verna loved her family and her Lord and always enjoyed sharing a good story about a friend or loved one.
Her final years were spent in Saint Johns, Fl. with her son Ed and his wife Kelly. Soon she was a beloved member of Unity Church for Creative Living and with baking as her passion, her “cookie ministry” began. If you were sad or ill, troubled or celebrating life, she would offer a plate of cookies to heal and warm your heart and belly.
A private family celebration and burial will be held in Bath, NY, and a Memorial Service will be held in Saint Johns, FL on July 27th for the many who called her their mom as well.
