

Virginia graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1951, attended FSU and went on to earn a secretarial Degree from Massy Business College. In 1952 she married Ted Alvarez, Jr. She became a member of Garden City United Methodist Church where she served as church organist and superintendent of the children’s division. She was employed by Duval County Public Schools in various positions at Ribault Jr. and Sr. High. Her last position was an Occupational Specialist at Andrew Jackson High School. She also became her husband’s secretary when he served in the Florida Legislature from 1966 to 1972. In later years she graduated from FSCJ with an A.S. degree in nursing and was employed by St. Lukes Hospital. After leaving hospital duty she was employed by PSRO, Gulf Life Insurance and American General Insurance doing utilization review. She was currently a member of Christian Family Chapel and was active in the Tuesday Afternoon Prayer Group.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Alvarez, Jr.; children, Evelyn Scott (Doug), LuAnn Van Pelt (Rod) and Steve Alvarez (Lisa) all of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10:30 a.m. in Garden City United Methodist Church, 3057 Dunn Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32218. Entombment in Evergreen Cemetery.
