

Walter Harold Kraemer, born to Esther and Samuel, passed away peacefully the morning of April 23, 2015. Born March 24, 1920 in New York, he grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. He met the love of his life, Sylvia Goldman, on a blind date in September of 1946. They were married in October of the following year, and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2014. Walter and Sylvia became residents of Jacksonville, Florida in 1947.
As a young man, Walter served his country in the US Air Corps as a gunner, instructor, and was one of the artists who contributed to the drawing of the topography for the Enola Gay. His artistic ability took him to work for Paramount Pictures in Miami, Florida, where he drew Popeye and Betty Boop among many other cartoon characters. He took great enjoyment in driving sports cars and playing golf. He was a successful businessman and philanthropist. He owned a pharmacy, DME company, and had the first mail-order diabetic and respiratory company in the country.
A devoted father and husband, Walter was loved and respected by everyone he knew. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; Frederic, wife Linda, and their children Sarah and James; Marcia, husband Howard Kalman, and their daughter Amy; Mark, wife Iris, and their children Kenny and Elissa; Kenny’s wife Ashley, and their son, Jonah. Walter’s memory will also be cherished by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Services will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Jacksonville Jewish Center at 11:00AM, with interment at the New Center Cemetery, 43rd and Liberty, Jacksonville, Florida.
Donations can be made in his honor to the Jacksonville Jewish Federation.
