Grace Norwood Winston

Grace Claudette Norwood (Winston) was born to the late Thelma and Samuel Norwood in Philadelphia, PA on March 30, 1937. She was one of the thirteen children born to this couple. She departed this life on December 13,2017

She received her early education at Hollyville Elementary School in Harbeson, Delaware. She later attended the William C. Jason High School in Gerogetown, Delaware. Grace was a highly personable individual who loved people and was greatly loved by all who knew her as was reflected by her life of service to the church and to the world in general. Grace never met a soul that she could not positively relate to.

Grace's working career started in her late teens and continued until her retirement from The Flint Michigan Board of Education in 1993 in the capacity of Senior Food Service Supervisor being responsible for the Menu, Preparation ,and serving of meals to more than 1500 students in grades pre K thru 12th grade.

Prior to retirement, Grace spent a number of years as a medical assistant in Nursing homes and as an experienced seamstress in several sewing factories.

Grace was married to the late Lonnie Winston of Greensboro, NC and was blessed with two children.

Grace was a lifetime member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in which she was very active especially as a "Young People's Advocate", she served in such leadership roles as Head Usher, Deaconess, Secretary to various church related programs, and as an "Adventist" Youth leader.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Samuel Norwood. One sister Fedora Alice Jones, two brothers, Daniel Webster Norwood, and Charles Ferette Norwood.

A graveside service will be held at Noon, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her two devoted children, Yolonda Jonice Winston (daughter) of Atlanta, GA and Anthony Wayne Winston (son) of Silver Springs. MD. Brothers, Ralph Benjamin Norwood of Newark, NJ, Robert S. Norwood of Millsboro, Delaware, Ernest Franklin Norwood of Pine Forge, PA. Sisters, Mary Elizabeth Moore of Frankford, Delaware, Thelma Ellen Norwood of Dover, Delaware, Christina Mae Green of Magnolia, Delaware, Lydia Ann Brooks of Salisbury, Maryland, Marilyn Avis Hatton of Dover, Delaware and Naomi Mercedes Winston of Atlanta, GA. Four Brother in laws; Five Sister in laws, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

The family will receive friends Wed., December 20, 2017, 6:00pm-8:00pm, at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
