Mrs. Helen Straughn Carroll, of Haw Branch, passed away on Aug. 31, 2017, at Dayspring Assisted Living, Wallace NC. Mrs. Carroll was born in Richlands on Jan 3, 1932, to Effie Carter Straughn and Linwood Straughn. She attended Richlands High School. She was a homemaker, farmer, and mechanic.
Helen follows her son Joey Carroll who died in 2013 and six of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn, grandchildren, Monica and David, and great-grandson Kai. She is also survived by her sister Anna Lambert and a large group of nieces and nephews.
She was a career farmer and loved gardening. She loved to cook for her family and friends, music, hunting, fishing, and tinkering with tools. Helen was a firm believer in hard work and going out of her way to help others.
Burial service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., Onslow Memorial Park.
