Betty was born March 3, 1948 in Towley, Alabama to the late Toby and Mariah Sanders Williams who later moved to Jasper in 1954. She received her high school diploma from the Walker County Training School, and in later years graduated Nursing school at Bevill State Community College while it was still named Walker Tech. After graduation from Nursing school and many years working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, she was asked to become an Instructor of Certified Nursing at Bevill State through the Alabama State Career Center workforce development JTPA program where she served until the program end. She loved caring for others and it was evident in her employment history fore she worked simultaneously at several nursing homes to include the Cordova Nursing Home, Ridgeview Health Care, Shade Crest Nursing Home, and Ridgewood Nursing Home. Her experience in nursing spanned almost 50 years, and she was very well known as Ms. Betty especially on Station 3. Betty had two sons, Pamp and Tony, who she would fight the devil over and win. She was an excellent cook, provider, homemaker, nurse, friend to those she loved (and not to those she didn’t- she didn’t make no bones about it), decorator, dancer, trend-setting dresser, and companion. She could make anything taste, feel, and look good. Betty was preceded in death by former spouse Obie McCollum, parents Toby and Mariah Willams, brothers Toby Lee, Robert Earl, and Jack McKinley Williams, grandparents Shelly and Rosie Smith Williams and Robert and Rosetta Sanders, and inlaws Martha and Clorenda Willams. She was survived by her Companion, James Garner; Sons, Obie “Pamp” Williams and Antonio “Tony” Williams of Cordova; 8 Grandchildren, Myia, Myron, Mariah, Malik, Morgan, Madison, Makala, Mason, Keion, Kwon, and Antonio Jr.; 6 Great grandchildren, Baleigh, Bryson, Braden, Nylah, and Kwon’s two; Siblings, Shelly, Darvin, and Elizabeth (Liz) Williams of Jasper and Louise Williams of Cordova; Nieces & Nephews she reared, Joanna, Robbie, Shawn, Connie, Shug, Nikki, Maureen, Granny, Mae, Meat, Maine, and Kayla; In-Laws and special friends, Morey Williams and Warren Witherspoon of Birmingham, Vera Shelton, Gloria Farris, Lora Hagler, and Constance, Anna, Jewel McCollum of Georgia.
