Kenneth was born September 28, 1940, to James Garland Pounds Sr. and Gracie Lois Tuggle Pounds. He was their fourth living child. He began working at the age of 12 by cutting pulp wood, and by the time he was 17 he worked at Tatum’s Dry Goods catching chickens at night.
While in school he met the love of his life, Doris Ann Evans. After his 11th grade year, when his family moved to Arkansas, in a small intimate wedding, he spirited his 15-year-old bride to Arkansas. The couple returned to Alabama with their two daughters in 1961, where he would live the remainder of his life. He enlisted in the Army but was honorably discharged due to frostbite. He worked in the transportation industry for Hall Motors, ETMF, Southeastern and AAA Cooper. He ended his career with Drummond Coal Company.
Kenneth had many social interests. He loved the church first and foremost. He served as a Deacon and Elder at Deason Hill and Cordova Church of Christ. He was always involved in Vacation Bible School Kenneth and Ann were active in the initial development of Indian Creek Youth Camp. Other phases of his life’s interests were Cordova High School football, Walker County Rescue Squad, adventures out West, hiking Bankhead National Forest, and babysitting his four grandchildren and great grandchild.
Aside from his family and church family, being Santa Claus brought the most joy to him. He loved children. He loved seeing the sparkle in their eyes as Ann recited “The Night Before Christmas” and he played the role of Santa Claus. Rest in peace, your work on Earth is done.
